How to Play Texas Hold'em Poker
There are 3 different variations of Texas Hold'em Poker. They all play the same with the exception of the betting
limits/rules.
- Limit - There is a set table maximum bet.
- Pot Limit - Players can bet up to the total amount in the pot.
- No Limit - Players can bet all the chips they have.
Here's how a game of Texas Hold'em deals out:
- The 2 players to the left of the dealer must make a small blind and a big blind. (A 'blind' is when a player must 'post' a bet before looking at cards. The value of the blind should be posted at your table, and the small blind is half that amount.)
- After both blinds have been placed the dealer will deal 2 cards face down to each player.
- Then there is a round of betting.
- After the first round of betting the dealer will lay 3 cards face up in the middle of the table. These cards are 'communal', meaning for everyone at the table to use in their hands.
- Another round of betting follows.
- After the bets a fourth card is placed face up.
- There is a betting round.
- Then the last card is placed face up.
- There is the final round of betting.
- Remaining players show their hands, with the last player who bet showing first (players who cannot beat the
hand shown may 'muck' their cards - they do not have to show). The winner takes the pot.
